Sounds and notifications

The game uses a few small sounds and on-screen messages to tell you what just happened without you having to watch every train. Here’s what each one means — and how to turn them off if you’d rather play in peace.

The sounds

  • Ding — the turn moved on. You’ll hear it whenever anyone takes their turn.
  • Ding (on a double) — someone played a double. You always hear exactly one ding per double, never two.
  • Clack clack — somebody is down to their last domino. Worth looking up for.
  • Choo choo — a player’s train has opened up, so anyone can play on it now.

Each sound plays once per event, even though the game tells every player about it over two different channels behind the scenes.

The messages

Short notes appear near the middle of the screen, then tuck themselves into a stack in the bottom-right corner. They tell you when another player played a domino, ended their turn, played a double, opened their train, or changed their name — and when a round has been won.

  • They disappear on their own after about four seconds.
  • Click one (or press Enter when it’s focused) to dismiss it straight away.
  • If you’ve switched to another tab they’ll wait for you, and each gets a moment on screen when you come back.
  • Only the five most recent are shown.

Winning the whole game gets its own bigger announcement in the middle of the screen, with confetti.

“Your turn!”

The first time it becomes your turn, a large Your turn! appears in the middle of the screen and then settles into its usual spot just above your dominoes, where it gives a gentle wobble until you play.

Little movements

  • A player’s column gives a wiggle when they change their name, so you notice.
  • A domino you’ve just drawn wiggles once in your hand, and is selected ready to play.
  • Three things double as help buttons — the orange train icon above a player’s name, your Points, and the tiles left count. Click any of them for an explanation.

Turning the sounds off

  1. Open a game and click Menu at the bottom of the screen.
  2. Choose Display settings.
  3. Tick Disable all sounds to mute everything for this game.

There’s also a gentler option underneath: Disable player turn ding silences the ding when other people play, but you still hear it when the turn comes round to you — so you keep your own cue without the constant chime. Both are settings you can change back at any time from the same panel.

These apply to the game you’re in, not to your account, so you can mute one noisy game and leave the rest alone.
