What is the divider tile?

If you have spotted a blank tile in your hand with a slash through it, nothing has gone wrong. It is a divider — a marker you can drag anywhere among your dominoes to split them into two groups.

What it is for

Players at a real table often push a few dominoes forward to keep them separate — the ones they are saving, or the ones they want rid of. The divider does the same thing on screen. Where you put it is up to you, and it means nothing to the game.

Two common ways to use it:

  • Tiles you can play right now on one side, everything else on the other.
  • Your high scorers — the double-twelve and its friends — kept together so you remember to get rid of them before the round ends.

It is not a real domino

The divider is only a marker, so it never affects your game:

  • It has no value and is not counted in your points.
  • It cannot be played on a train. Drag it at one and it hops straight back to where it was.
  • Nobody else can see it. It sits in your hand, on your screen, and that is all.

Moving it

Drag it exactly like any other tile in your hand. On a phone or tablet, tap it once and use the arrow buttons that appear to nudge it left or right. There is no rotate button, because there is nothing to turn round.

It starts at the right-hand end of your hand in every new game, out of the way until you want it. Each new round puts it back there.

Turning it off

If you would rather not have it, you can hide it. Open a game, click Menu at the bottom of the screen, choose Display settings, and untick Show divider tile.

This is a personal setting — you can change it whenever you like, it affects nobody else in the game, and the same switch is on your Account page under Display Settings if you want every new game to start without it. See Settings for the rest of them.
