Leaving a game, and removing a player

Sometimes a game has to carry on without somebody — a player has to go, or has stopped coming back. There are two ways that happens: you can leave a game yourself, or whoever created the game can remove someone from it. Both are in the same place, and both let you choose between doing it at the end of the round and doing it right now.

Where both of them live

In a game, click Menu — to the left of your dominoes, at the bottom of the screen — and choose Game Scores and Settings. Scroll down past the scores. What you find at the bottom depends on whether you created the game.

If you joined the game, you get the option to leave. If you created it, you get the option to remove somebody else — and instead of leaving, you have End game, since a game cannot carry on without the person who owns it.

Leaving a game yourself

Two buttons, and the difference matters:

Leave game at end of round — the gentler one. You finish the round you are in and are scored for it, then sit out every round after that. Nothing is interrupted for anybody else.
Leave game now — this ends the current round immediately and scores everyone’s dominoes as they stand, then drops you from the rest of the game. Use it when you cannot stay to finish the round.

Either way you are asked to confirm first, and either way the scores that have already been recorded stay — but the game’s totals will not reflect a complete game, because you were not in all of it.

If there are only two of you, leaving ends the game once the round is scored. The game tells you so in the confirmation, so it is not a surprise.

Changing your mind

If you chose to leave at the end of the round, the panel changes to say you are set to leave, with a Stay in the game button underneath. Press that any time before the round ends and nothing happens — you carry on as normal. Once the round has actually ended, you are out, and you cannot rejoin.

Removing somebody from a game

Only the person who created the game can do this. In the same place, there is Remove a player from the game, a dropdown to choose who, and then the same two options:

Remove player at end of round — they finish and are scored for the current round, then take no part in the rounds after it.
Remove player now — the round ends right away and nobody is scored for it. They are out of every round after that.

Both ask you to confirm, and both name the player in the confirmation so you cannot remove the wrong person by mis-clicking a dropdown. A removed player cannot rejoin the game.

The option disappears once only two players are left. Removing one of two would leave a single player sitting alone, which is really a decision to end the game — so use End game instead.

Which one you actually want

Somebody has to go, and the game should continue — they leave at the end of the round, or you remove them at the end of the round.
Somebody stopped playing days ago — remove them now if the round is stuck waiting on them, or at the end of the round if it is not.
Everybody is done with this game — that is End game, not a removal. It belongs to whoever created the game.
You just want to stop looking at a finished game — you can hide it from your games list instead; nothing is removed for anybody else.

There is no time limit anywhere in a game, so nobody is ever removed automatically for being slow. A game will happily wait for days. Removing somebody is always a decision a person makes.
